Sprouting in your own home is a real talking point at the moment!
Healthy living remains the buzz topic around Ireland right now, and sprouting your very own seeds on your kitchen counter top is another exciting way to join in. Your house guests will be fascinated to see your sprouts bursting with energy and nutrition, and growing as you speak.
The reasons and advantages are endless.
1.	Get maximum nutrition with every meal or snack
2.	Living foods right at your fingertips for breakfast, lunch and dinner
3.	Save tens of euro per week
4.	Add an attractive piece of kitchen furniture to your countertop
5.	It’s so easy – just rinse each jar under the tap twice a day, at breakfast and dinner time
Did you know that Alfalfa is the only plant to contain the full range of vitamins A, B, B12, C, E, K. You can add these delicious sprouts to complete a tasty salad or pitta for lunch, or try mixing them with some vegetarian cous cous for a hearty warm dinner. Just like picking fresh veggies from your back garden, these sprouts are even more nutritious as they are still living and packed with energy.
Mung beans are a super vegetarian source of protein. Sprinkle a handful over your soup or salad or mix them through mashed potato. You won’t believe how full and satisfied you will feel after eating them. They are a popular choice for people who are trying to lower cholesterol or limit their dietary intake of meat.
Drop into us at Greenvalu or give us a call to find out more on how to get set up for growing your own sprouts. We have everything you need in stock now!

Wheatgrass and green juice can really help with physical exercise.

Get Up

John’s day starts at 7am with a 300ml Green Juice made from Celery, Cucumber, Spinach, Kale, Lemon and Ginger. Breakfast is followed at 7.30 with a bowl of Organic Muesli with a mixture of Organic spelt puffs and 4 types of organic Omega 3 seeds and some rice milk.

Swimming Time

Then its off to the pool 5 days a week for his daily 1.25 km swim followed by stretching exercise’s and straight to work for 9.30 am. At 10.30 he takes a double shot of juiced wheatgrass with the Greenvalu juicer and tries to take the same again in the afternoon. Wheat grass juice helps your body to build red blood cells, which carry oxygen to every cell. By increasing the oxygenation in your body you can increase your endurance during physical exercise and increase your energy levels.

John’s energy levels have really increased and he puts this down to wheatgrass and green juicing in conjunction with a balanced diet allowing him to train hard every day.

Keep up the good work John.

Harry Taylor from Perth Australia has sent us this great picture of him surfing and his story. Could you send us over some of that sunshine Harry. Greenvalu I am 34 years of age and have been surfing on an off for the past 15 years. I was a typical bloke who was getting a bit lazy. I was in Dublin a year ago when I met the guys from Greenvalu at a Health show . I took a gamble on the guys juicer. Its pretty big here in Oz and it seemed like a good machine and at a good price. The guys organised to send it to my address in Oz and I can tell you that I haven’t looked back since . I started with apples, oranges, grape fruit and pineapple but have move on to a lot of greens. The greens are a bit more expensive but they are great and give me so much energy. I can’t start a day without my green juice. Its been pretty hot this summer so I been back surfing most days and I feel great. Full of energy. I want to say a big thanks to Greenvalu who sent me over a part for the juicer when I cracked the cup . These guys are good. Harry

My name is Eva Byrne. I am a 35 year old mother of four from Portmarnock, Co Dublin. I am thrilled with my recent weightloss of 10lbs. I never thought losing weight could be enjoyable. The best part is that I am actually keeping the weight off for the first time ever.

Since I started juicing four months ago, my attitude to vegetables also changed completely. I used to eat very little veg, and I never imagined drinking my “5 a day” in a glass of juice. My diet and attitude to food has become healthy without even thinking too much about it.

I look forward to having my low sugar green juice every morning, using Cucumber, Celery, Green Apple, Ginger, Spinach and a little bit of lime. The kids love apple, carrot and celery. It is great to see them getting plenty of nutrition through raw fruit and veg, and they get really excited about making a juice. They love just watching the food grinding through the machine!

Being a busy full-time mother, it is great to have a juicer that is so easy to clean. I just give the parts a rinse under the tap, before heading out the door for the school run.

I have more motivation and energy with my new healthy eating habits. I still have my Chinese at the weekend, but I am eating little or no junk food during the week when I kick start my days with a green juice. When my friends call, they ask me to make them a juice instead of a tea or coffee!

I found Ciaran from GreenValu very helpful in getting me started and explaining how the GreenValu juicer works and spares the enzymes in the food. I am delighted to be juicing and feeling great. I would highly recommend it.

My name is Anthony Fagan. Since I started juicing and sprouting over a month ago, my training ability has just gone through the roof.
I work out in the gym and I practice Krav Maga and Muay Thai, both are forms of unarmed combat which are highly demanding – physically and mentally.
I have always enjoyed physical training and exercise, but I honestly believe juicing has brought me to the next level. I have never been in better shape than I am now.
Before I started drinking green juice, I had been training once a day. Now, I have so much energy that I am training twice a day. My recovery time is much quicker too.
In the mornings, I have a wheatgrass shot which gives me a great kickstart. I follow this with a green juice made with celery, cucumber, spinach, kale, ginger, and half a lime. I also add beetroot or Pok Choi, I try to keep it as low sugar as possible. I have a second juice in the evening.
I have always had what I would consider a healthy diet, but now I feel I have stepped that up a notch and my diet is totally clean. I still eat chicken or fish once a day.
I work in construction and as a night club door man. Whether I am working a late night shift, or on a building site, I make a green juice before I go to work and I take a sprout pitta bread with me to keep my energy levels high. This also prevents me from eating any junk food.
I had done a lot of research on juicer machines before I invested in my GreenValu juicer, and I have definitely made the right choice. I also buy all my organic food products from GreenValu and find Ciaran great to deal with.
Cheers.
Anthony.

My name is Ken Noonan. I’m a typical 41 year old Irish father of three kids. In November 2012, I decided to change my lifestyle and get fit. My typical day before this usually started with an unhealthy breakfast, I didn’t mind what it was, once it was smothered in rashers.

Lunch was a quick stop, usually a drive through McDonalds or a Subway with as much meat as possible jammed into a roll. Dinner was the only healthy sit down meal that I had, prepared by my wife Pamela, once there was plenty of meat I was happy. I’m five foot eight inches in height and towards the end of last year when my weight hit fourteen and a half stone I said enough was enough.

Exercise to me was always put on the long finger. I could make up one hundred and one excuses not to exercise rather than get off the couch and get out for a walk. Weekdays were spent going to work and collapsing in front of the telly every night. I had absolutely no energy to do anything once I came home from work. Training an U14s Football team, twice a week, became a struggle when I couldn’t keep up with the kids, constantly out of breath trying to explain to them what we were going to do next. This is when I got talking to John Price from Greenvalu and his advice literally changed my life.

My Juicing Journey

John explained the health benefits of juicing and sprouting to me and my wife Pamela. He also showed us how simple it was to start. I liked what I heard as it was generally common sense and I purchased a Greenvalu juicer and immediately started juicing my own drinks and growing my own super food sprouts at home in my kitchen and once I started taking these super foods I felt and instant effect.

Within the first week, I had lost half a stone with enough energy to get out every night for a brisk walk. After the first week I start jogging, something I haven’t done since my teens, every second night I would run 5km and on the weekend I would run 10km. My time for a 10Km run is now 57 minutes. Then I started taking a shot of wheatgrass before breakfast every morning. This is a miracle drink full of goodness and an absolute must for anyone that wants to increase their energy levels. To my amazement Pamela also started taking wheatgrass shots. Pamela is a good runner and feels it is helping her energy and stamina and she is feeling really good.

Now my typical daily food intake is like this, I start every morning by juicing a pint of green juice with my Greenvalu Juicer, followed by a shot of wheatgrass. The green juice consists of an apple, lemon, lime, celery, cucumber, spinach & ginger. This is followed by a bowl of organic muesli with rice milk and a mug of tea. This nutritious breakfast gives me everything I need and more to start my day with energy.

For lunch I now make my own wholegrain pitta breads with mango chutney, organic mustard, egg free mayo with chopped tomatoes, onion, cucumber and red pepper. I normally bring two to work with me and each pitta bread is bursting with a selection of super food sprouts including alfalfa and mungbean. I have a fillet of chicken or fish with roasted vegetables or wholegrain rice or couscous for dinner.I have cut out all rubbish foods and limited my meat & dairy intake. I have lost two stone in weight and I am on track to shed another stone, hopefully before I hit 42. I don’t look on this as a diet, I look on it as being a healthy lifestyle. I find myself bursting with energy, being able to enjoy quality time with my family and we partake in plenty of outdoor activities.

Nutritional Value

Just one shot of wheatgrass juice will provide you with the vitamins and minerals of 2 pounds of leafy green vegetables.
Wheatgrass juice contains 90 out of 102 vitamins, minerals and nutrients including vitamins A, B, C, E and K. It includes high concentrations of the most alkaline minerals: calcium, potassium, magnesium and sodium.
Wheatgrass also contains 12 amino acids including the 8 essential amino acids that the body cannot produce and can only obtain through diet. These are phenylalanine, valine, threonine, tryptophan, isoleucine, methionine, leucine and lysine.

Boosts your immune system

Wheatgrass is a living food, which can help the body fight off infection. Being highly anti-bacterial, wheatgrass juice helps to alkalise and detoxify the lymph and blood cells, allowing the body to rebuild and carry toxins out of the body quickly and effectively.

Rich in chlorophyll

Wheatgrass contains more than 70% chlorophyll, which has a molecular structure almost identical to the haemoglobin molecule of our human blood. The central element in chlorophyll is magnesium and in haemoglobin it is iron. This similarity allows the body to easily transform chlorophyll into haemoglobin, increasing the red blood cell count and the blood’s capacity to transport oxygen to our tissues and vital organs. This can also help increase endurance during physical exercise.

Detoxifies

Chlorophyll also acts as a cleansing agent in the human body, helping to purify the liver of toxins. Heavy metals such as mercury, aluminium and lead that can build up in the body, can be removed with the help of wheatgrass juice. Impacted waste in the colon is also broken up by chlorophyll during the detoxification process.

Anti-inflammatory

Wheatgrass reduces toxins in the blood that collect around the joints to cause pain and swelling. Symptoms of chronic conditions such as arthritis can be alleviated. It also contains the enzyme P4D1 which stimulates the renewal of nucleic acid (RNA/DNA). This acts as an anti-inflammatory agent.

Anti-carcinogenic

Since oxygen plays a role in combating cancer cells, wheatgrass juice can be considered helpful in the fight against cancer. The chlorophyll content increases haemoglobin production, which in turn produces more oxygen for the body. So as the oxygen may assist in preventing the cancer from invading the body, the vitamins, minerals, and amino acids, found in wheatgrass strengthen the body’s immune system. The chlorophyll found in wheatgrass is the body’s offence, and the other nutrients which make the body stronger form the defence. Weight Loss
The high nutritional value of wheatgrass can prevent food cravings that lead to overeating. Drinking wheatgrass juice can make you feel fuller faster, as your digestion is enhanced.

Anti Aging

Wheatgrass juice is rich in antioxidants which fight against the free-radicals that accelerate the aging process. It can promote youthfulness as the high magnesium content in chlorophyll builds enzymes that restore both male and female sex hormones.

Another fantastic GreenValu juicing success story from Martin Gilligan, aged 50…

Last December, I took part in the Clonakilty Half Marathon, I really struggled with the training and felt sluggish and worn out after it took me 2 hours 12 mins . I also put a half stone on over Christmas and made a conscious decision in January to try make a change to my eating habits. I was 13 stone on 14 January and I decided I had to nip this in the bud. So hearing about the benefits of Juicing I decided to give it a go and along with that I started growing my own sprouts and wheatgrass with expert guidance from John Price of Greenvalu. To my surprise this was very simple and easy to start.

Juicing

The family thought I was going mad but after a week of making Juice for them every morning they started to see the benefits. Juicing fresh fruit and vegetables is an easy way to extract the vitamins and minerals and put them start into your digestive system. Your body absorbs this within 15 minutes of drinking your juice. So each morning now we have Juice from cucumber, celery, apple, orange, spinach and lemon; all juiced in Greenvalu’s masticating juicer which is a doodle to use and so easy to clean. I have Laura my wife on board and my daughters Ciara and Louise and Jack, my son won’t leave the house without their juice. I am growing my own wheatgrass and try to have a shot per day or sometimes mixed it with the juice.

Sprouting

I’ve also started sprouting my own super foods which include alfalfa, broccoli ,radish, and clover sprouts. I’m having to hide them from the family now because everyone loves them.

Health Improvements

My running, sleep, stamina, skin, weight and overall well being has improved immensely. I’ve lost a stone in 5 weeks, my recovery from training /Running is much better. I finished the Mount Juliet Half Marathon on 16th February in 2 hrs 4 mins – my best half marathon time in 5 years so needless to say I’m feeling the benefits and going to keep this up.
One thing about this simple lifestyle change – it’s easy once you make the decision to do it and also I go easy on myself if I have an off day and have a desert or something because I know I can get back on track straight.

I started running in August 2012 to try and raise money for my sons school. I was trying to improve my health due to battling illness for many years. My son has Autism and the school he attends have been a great support to us. I am 31 years of age and just last year (2012) finished 6 months of treatment for a serious illness. I am now a non-drinker and gave up smoking Dec 2012 as I did not want to go through a tough therapy again. I started exercising 2 months after treatment for a charity run for my sons school properly a bit early. I felt that my diet needed to change or at least improve. I had been trying to improve my diet for years and had always tried to get fit but never really got there. I was gradually improving my diet and always search for ways to fuel my lifestyle juggling a family, work and running. The following is how I found what I now consider my super fuels.

Back in November 2012 I went to the Dublin Food coop in search of the food called wheat grass after doing research about the serious health benefits on the internet. The guys at the copo explained what I needed, quiet to my surprise I couldn’t start taking it there and then. I was giving the contact details for John Price from Greenvalu who happened to live in the same town as me which could be seen as godsend! All my praying had paid off. I called John and basically was up and running by the weekend it was Thursday at the time. I will say that it was one of the best investments I have ever made. Actually it is the best investment I have ever made. I met John and he had everything I needed and I mean everything including good sloid advice. Things progressed really quickly which is normal for me. I moved from growing one tray to now 4 trays of wheatgrass growing at a time.

No my morning starts at 6:30 when I cut my wheatgrass and juice 2oz. I normally wait half an hour before coffee then I am ready for my organic muesli. I drink water throughout the day trying to consume up to 3 litres. For lunch I have wholemeal pita bread sometimes with whole meats such as cooked ham and always with a handfuls of spouts clover, broccoli, mung or whatever I have spouting at the time along with some tomatoes and beetroot.

On a training day I would have a spelt pasta or brown rice with chicken and pesto. Also to top it off a load of nuts such as almonds, brazils, hazelnuts, pistachios, dried mango and apricots. This gets me ready for training hard that day, I have the nuts and dried fruit every day and only have the pasta dish when training. Dinner always consists of a mountain of veg. This is where I give complements to my wife Michelle who in fact does a lot of the work. We tend to team up but I must say she takes up a lot of the work. About an hour after dinner I always have a pint of Green Juice from my Greenvalu masticating juicer. This consists of celery, cucumber, spinach, lemon, ginger, apple and kiwi. My children calls it the hulk juice.

I ran my first half Marmaton 13.1 miles on the 16th Feb 2013. I have only raced in 2 x 10k’s before this. I looked back over my logs and my 5k times was 32 minutes and now they are 22 minutes. The log also said 6 months ago my 10k time was 65 minutes my last race time at Christmas was 47minutes. I can safely say that the produce from green valu has been centre fold of my diet. After a short time juicing I seenserious positive results in my life not only the training. I feel fantastic and have much more energy for my family, work and training. I am both physically and mentally improving with every passing day that I stick to the program I do daily. I would encourage anyone to try juicing under the advice of Green Valu and lap up the rewards it brings such as good physical and mental health!!!!

Studies have shown that there is a link between diet and disease. It is also known that a key factor to good health and for your body is a balanced diet and to digest the nutrients found in fruits and vegetables. Juicing fruits and vegetables allow these nutrients to go straight to work for you because the nutrition enters the bloodstream within minutes after being consumed.
At Greenvalu we believe the benefits of juicing will provide a valuable nutritional supplement to your diet that will lead to a happier and healthier lifestyle.

Within a short period of time if you juice daily, you may notice a great improvement in your energy levels and sense of all round well-being. The reason for this is because you get more nutrients by consuming the juice of fruits and vegetables than by eating them. Fresh fruit and vegetable juice contains essential vitamins, enzymes and minerals which can sustain a high quality of life in a healthy body. The use of juicers and juicing liquid nutrition from vegetables and fruits is still relatively new to most people’s diets. We hope you enjoy juicing and the benefits that come with it.

The juicing recipes below are great, simple and easy. We encourage you to use them and experiment with different combinations of juices on your own.

Preparation for Juicing - The Power of Juicing

1. Wash all produce before juicing. Try to use organic produce where possible.
2. Leafy greens, wheat grass and sprouts should be bunched up and pushed through your juicer with the plunger.
3. All organic fruits such as lemons, limes, apples, pears, etc can be juiced with the skin or rind.
4. Always check your produce before juicing. Ensure it is fresh and trim away any discoloured or bruised sections.
5. Drink juice right after you make them so that you keep nutrient loss at a minimum.
